Luggage weight

Kala and I flew from Glasgow to London Luton with one checked in luggage weighing about 18kg.  We had a mixture of our stuff but also stuff for her auntie in Paris (food, drinks, moisturisers etc).  The liquid stuff took more of the weight.  Before we left I asked Kala if we'd have enough weight allowance when we come back.  Kala said once auntie's stuff is out, we should lots more weight as were also not planning to buy much whilst away on holiday anyway.  Out Easyjet checkin allowance was 20kg, that's what we paid for.

The night before we left London for Glasgow were were packing and it seemed our shopping from Paris and London all accrued up and now seem to take up a lot more space than we had imagined.  The main suitcase was totally jam packed especially after we had a great day of shopping in an outlet in Oxford, another big store in London, and also two plush dolls to fit into the suitcase.  Once the case was shut it felt like the case was definitely over the 20kg allowance. By how much, we do not know as I left the luggage weight gadget at home, expecting the luggage not be any heavier than 20kg lol!  So we planned that once we got to the airport, if at the check in desk it was over and we had to take stuff out then we'd take a hoodie and a cardigan out of the carry on suitcase then fill that space with whatever we could from the main suitcase, to lighten the load and hopefully square it back to 20kg.  That was the plan.

Once we reached the check in desk, the woman was at the desk on her own.  As soon we got to the desk I asked her if we could weigh our suitcase first before proceeding.  She said it was ok to do so.  Before I did that I gave her our pre-printed boarding passes and passports.  I then lifted the heavy suitcase onto the luggage belt and looked at the weight of it... 23.03kg!  *gulp*

So I said, "oh dear" then I lifted it back off the belt and onto the ground and proceeded to open the suitcase, starting with unlocking the padlock.  As I was turning the numbers to the combination, and speaking to Kala in Chinese about what to do etc, the woman looked down at us and us, "It's ok sir, just forget about it."  I was like, "err.. oh you sure?" (not sure why I asked that, because if she said 'No' what would I have done?!)  Anyway, yes, in the end she let us on the plane whilst being 3.03kg over the 20kg limit which we bought!  Amazing or what?!  It wasn't like the flight was empty or very quiet.  It was an almost full flight!

This is down to God's grace and His provision, His protection.  We are thankful to Him for providing us a way out of this otherwise very awkward situation and we have avoided having to wear extra layers of clothes just to our suitcases were light enough.  Praise God!
